The secret chord

“Well, I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this:
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah…”

The David is king David, the proof is next stance…

“Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah…”

From Bible,we know that King David seduces Bathsheba  and intentionally causes the death of her husband Uriah the Hittite.

but still in Acts13:22 “After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do’

how David became a man after God’s own heart?

God know a man’s heart……

It is governed by two basic instincts….Libido(sexual urge) and aggression.David was not exceptional.

(Freud is right, only in relation to a man’s heart, probably he learned it from an analysis of David)

Not only that God could see a loving heart in the David, indicated by Psalm 18:1

–” I love you, O Lord, my strength”.

but he could see the joy in David’s heart….

– “You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound”. (Psalm 4:7)

when you are with someone whom you loves  so deeply, there will be a joy

David’s joy was from his love towards God

David’s secret chord is nothing but his love towards God.

and finally the repenting nature……

–” For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great”. (Psalm 25:11)

David was not a holy man…not a saint

He was like us.He was humble,a king repenting because of his sins

He was …like a “dusty” clear crystal.

when you wash it(repent)…it will shine with the light.

and God’s light is nothing but love.God is love

“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them”1 john 4:1,

a man who loves God,reflects the light-Love

Once again, David’s secret chord is nothing but Love.

It is not the 5th chord in music.

But the 5th chord in any beautiful relation-LOVE

  1. Great study and post. I see the separation of man and woman, even before the Great Schism, as the potential for a man or woman to disregard humanity for things higher, disrespecting life. Thus my poem, a differing take on the same story. We are told to care and respect each other, even as God respects us. It is good David loves God, but he disrespected man and woman, hence his sin. Since forgiveness is a great part of life, it is good David found peace or he might have ended in another fate. Peace J 🕊🕯

  2. WOW WOW WOW–this is a splendid post!!! I love that song, and I love that David and many of us are considered people after God’s heart–regardless that we sin. God hates sin because it always results in people getting hurt–but He loves us with an “Unfailing Love”. You can’t beat that 🙂 God bless you so abundantly with His favor 🙂
