The Apple of your eye

It states that; Isaac Newton first thought of his system of gravitation which he hit upon by observing an apple fall from a tree , The incident occurring in the late summer of 1666. In other accounts it is stated that Newton was sitting in his garden at  Woolsthorpe Manor  near Grantham in Lincolnshire when the incident occurred.

The apple became a symbol for knowledge

The popular christian tradition holds that  the Eve was cheated  by a serpent, and she  tempted Adam,and they ate an apple  from the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden.

The apple became a symbol of temptation and sin

But, when Christ is portrayed holding an apple (new covenant), he represents the Second Adam who brings life.

In Greek mythology,Atlanta, raced all her suitors in an attempt to avoid marriage. She outran all but Hippomenes  (Melanion), who defeated her by cunning, not speed. Hippomenes knew that he could not win in a fair race, so he used three golden apples (gifts of Aphrodite, the goddess of love) to distract Atalanta. It took all three apples and all of his speed, but Hippomenes was finally successful, winning the race and Atalanta’s hand.

In Greek mythology,the Garden of the Hesperides is Hera’s orchard in the west, where  a single apple tree  producing  golden apples that grant immortality when eaten

The Greek hero Hercules  as a part of his twelve labors  was required to travel to the Garden of the Hesperides and pick the golden apples.

Here the apple is a symbol of immortality.

In our modern era -An apple a day keeps the doctor away- became  a symbol of health.

For me, it is a symbol of eternal  love , and I like to give it to you,My muse.
